There is a conflict between the Drupal imagefield module and memcached statistics. If displaying memcached statistics is on and you try to upload a picture, it will result with "An HTTP error 0 occurred." error in Internet Explorer or a blank white page in Fire Fox. It will work perfectly fine, if you disable memcached statistics.

Many thanks, the HTTP error 0 problem had just about driven me to distraction. So many possible causes, so many possible solutions but in my case this was the actual cause. Now why didn't I try this first? If only ...
